Give your quilt tops the professional finishing touch they deserve!
Follow these simple steps to prepare your quilt. Be sure that all seams are secure and the top is pressed. Trim any loose threads. The quilt back and batting must be 4 to 8 inches longer and wider than the quilt top. DO NOT baste the quilt layers together.
Piecing and squaring the backing.
If you are piecing the quilt back, first trim off the selvages of the backing fabric. Sew the pieces together with a 1/2 inch seam and press open. It is best to have the seam run across the width of the back if possible. Be sure that the backing is at least 4 inches longer and wider than the quilt top. Square up all four corners by folding the back in half, lining up the long edges and triming the ends.
Good batting is a very good investment!
I have Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 batting for $8.00 per yard. You may choose your own batting, but please be sure that it is a good quality cotton or cotton blend. Polyester batting is much more difficult to work with and will not last as long in your quilt.
